Course description

The main aim of the I.T.E.C. Level 3 Diploma in Diet and Nutrition is to enable the learner to provide healthy eating advice for for the purpose of improving and maintaining good health and lifestyle.  This diploma is designed to give a good sound knowledge in the area of Diet/Nutrition, to develop major key skills in the area of communication, motivation, planning and problem solving.

Upon successful completion of the course which includes 25 Multiple Choice Questionnaire and submission of 5 case studies the learner will receive an I.T.E.C. Diploma Diet & Nutrition

Course Content

Diet & Nutrition:

  • The study of the Digestive System, accessory organs and endocrine system.
  • All the major Nutrients, Protein, Fats, Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Minerals, Water and Antioxidants.
  • Anti-Nutrients such as Alcohol, Caffeine, Smoking, Environmental Pollutants and there affect on the body.
  • Foods such as Meat, Dairy, Fruit, Vegetables, Grains, Nuts, Seeds and there role in a healthy diet.
  • Conditions and Disorders such as Obesity, Diabetes, Hypoglycemia and Eating Disorders.
  • Diets to help treat common ailments such as Constipation, Cystitis, IBS, and Sinusitis.
  • Dietary needs of specific groups including pregnant women, children and the older individual.
  • Food intolerance and allergies, weight gain, fad diets and their effect long term on the body.
  • Consultation and case studies,  communication, motivation, ability to  assess information.
  • Plan and goal setting to support client through lifestyle changes.

Class times

One evening per week, Wednesday 6.30-9.30. A theory only class.


I.T.E.C. Examination, multiple choice questionnaire. Corrected and Validated by the International Therapy Examination Council. A 1 hour multiple choice theory paper per course subject comprising of 25questions on all aspects of the course.

Exam fees are not included in the price of the course.   Exam Fee: €150

Registration Fee/Deposit

Course Fee:               €950

Reg Fee/Deposit:      €300

A registration fee/Deposit is required to hold a place on the course.

Once course has commenced Registration fees are non refundable.  In the exception of a course not commencing all registration fees will be refunded.


Written and verbal fluency in English are a requirement for this course.

Burren College Complementary Therapy is available to do on site courses in particular ITEC Diploma Diet & Nutrition. We can arrange to do on site courses for numbers in excess of 7.   Contact us to find out more.
